Overview

The Director of Tax and Compliance will be an integral member of the financial leadership team.  The Director will be an independent, hands-on, and self-directed individual responsible for all tax functions of the Company, including tax compliance, communication and regulatory surcharges compliance, tax planning and accounting for income taxes.  Individuals seeking a challenging, multi-faceted position in a fast-paced work environment will enjoy the diverse responsibilities of this key position.

 

Position to be based at the ViaPath Falls Church, VA office or the Mobile, AL office.  Hybrid work location schedule (office/home).

Responsibilities

The Director of Tax primary job responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee the preparation and review of federal, state and local income tax returns and estimated payments in conjunction with outside preparers.
  • Lead the preparation of the annual tax provision in accordance with ASC 740, including reconciliation of tax accounts, managing the return-to-provision analysis, reviewing applicable income tax payable accounts and preparing financial statement disclosures.
  • Prepare and provide income tax related analysis and forecasts
  • Prepare sales and use tax returns and other non-income tax filings such as personal property tax, business licenses, and gross receipts.
  • Oversee the regulatory compliance for communication surcharges (USF)
  • Prepare responses to IRS and state tax notices.
  • Manage tax audits and inquiries involving federal, state, and local taxes.
  • Liaise with management, accounting staff, and the billing department on tax questions.
  • Provide sound tax research, planning and advice on major issues.
  • Act as the primary tax resource within the Company and serve as the primary point of contact for outside professional firms in all tax matters.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 12+ years of relevant tax experience (including a combination of public accounting and corporate tax experience).
  • Strong U.S. sales tax compliance experience.
  • Telecommunication tax and surcharge experience preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work with all levels of employees and cross functional groups
  • Must be hands-on and comfortable working independently
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • CPA, Masters in Tax preferred
