Overview

The Senior Technical Editor is a key team member of the proposal team. As a Senior Technical Editor, the individual will apply in-depth functional and technical knowledge of integrated correctional technology solutions to provide editing and writing support for the preparation of proposals and other written material and facilitate the delivery of high-quality reports that require coordination with multiple stakeholders.

 

Working as a strategic thinker, the Senior Technical Editor will work with a multi-disciplinary team that includes executive level personnel as well as account managers, proposal managers, program and project managers, business development personnel, graphic artists, and other technical personnel, as well as all levels of administrative support (HR, finance and accounting, contracts, IT, etc.). Interaction and collaboration could include representatives from other companies and customer representatives.  Although every effort is made to do assigned work during normal work hours, proposals and other projects may require working extended hours, including weekends, on relatively short notice in order to meet schedule deadlines.

 

This is a remote based position. Must be based in the US.

Responsibilities

  • This position requires extensive knowledge of the ViaPath products and services, common product functionality in the industry, and proposal process; Must quickly learn and maintain an in-depth knowledge in the functional capabilities of all ViaPath products to curate and maintain product content.
  • Understand the ViaPath product functionality and user documentation as it relates to business requirements.
  • Work closely with Proposal Developer to define non-standard technical proposal task assignments and responsibilities.
  • Develop original and/or modified written material, including proposal content, that aligns with company-unique tones and guidelines; identify and communicate graphics needs that will strengthen content; and modify content based on stakeholder reviews and input.
  • Provide support across proposals, including integrate content received from multiple authors (including external in some cases) and review the work of other writers for thoroughness and clarity.
  • Review support, including providing reviews for compliance and coherence, editing/proofreading of technical documents, attending reviews and other meetings, recording meeting minutes, consolidation of reviewer comments.
  • Research, gather and coordinate non-standard technical responses from other departments as necessary.
  • Partner with various teams such as sales engineers, product managers, engineers, and sales to create innovative technical responses.
  • Monitor proposal status including deadlines.
  • Continue to maintain and refine the content library and RFP response template.
  • Ensure that all new and modified documents are created/updated in accordance with procedures and standards.
  • Manage content versioning and review process by appropriate subject matter experts.
  • Develop and demonstrate ways our solutions deliver business value to our clients.
  • Validate the solution's technical capabilities to clients as part of our RFP responses.
  • Responsibilities may include turning raw data into usable data and developing and/or updating RFP responses.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, related engineering field or technical writing/creative writing from an accredited college/university preferred; equivalent years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree will be considered.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience, preferably in the correctional environment.
  • Experience with web-based collaboration and content management systems (such as Microsoft SharePoint) is preferred.
  • Ability to produce (author) original proposal or other document content based on interviews with or notes from content providers or subject matter experts.
  • Excellent editing skills, following accepted rules of grammar, style, tone, and form.
  • Experience with technical writing to support state and local government RFPs is preferred.
  • Proficient in communicating and collaborating with personnel at all levels of an organization.
  • Ability to effectively communicate ideas and concepts both orally and in written documents.
  • Ability to articulate technical ideas into simple language.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft MS Office suite of products.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and schedule-driven, with a track record for compliance with strict standards (format, page limitations, special markings, etc.)
  • Ability to understand and translate concepts (for proposal solutions, for example) into concrete document elements such as outlines, tables, etc.
  • Must exercise initiative and judgment to successfully meet performance expectations pertaining to planning, writing, reviewing, and integrating written material.
  • Ability to work independently and accurately record/report task status.
  • Must be able to work extended hours as needed when facing proposal deadlines.
  • Ability to cope with the pressures associated with meeting tight deadlines, supporting multiple simultaneous proposal activities, and producing documents with exacting requirements for content and quality.
  • Passion for technical and/or creative writing, word choice, and creating and communicating simple explanations for complex topics.
  • Ability to multi-task working in a fast-paced environment while meeting competing deadlines.
  • Minimal travel – up to 10%.
